MyTalkMate is developed by DrozDEV as an independent iOS application. This Privacy Policy explains what data the app collects, how it is used, who it is shared with, and your rights as a user. We are committed to collecting the minimum data necessary to deliver the service.
Third-Party AI Service — What Is Shared
Before using the core conversation feature, MyTalkMate asks for your explicit consent to send the text of your conversation to a third-party AI provider. You can decline; declining disables the conversation feature, since it cannot function without it. You can also withdraw your consent at any time in the app's Settings — after withdrawing, the conversation feature is disabled again and no further text is sent.
When you speak in the app, here is exactly what happens and where your data goes:
- What is sent: the text transcription of your spoken words — converted to text by Apple's speech recognition, as described in "Microphone & Speech Recognition" below — plus the recent turns of the current conversation for context.
- Who it is sent to: Anthropic PBC, the maker of the Claude AI models, via our own relay server (api.drozdev.com), which forwards the request and does not store it.
- Why: Anthropic's AI model generates the conversational reply that the app speaks back to you.
- What is NOT sent: your name, email, device identifiers, precise location, or any other personal identifier. Your audio recording is never sent to Anthropic — only the transcribed text.
Anthropic processes this text solely to generate a response to your request and does not use it to train its models by default for API traffic like ours. Review Anthropic's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle this data.
Information We Collect
MyTalkMate does not collect personally identifiable information and has no user accounts. The following data is stored locally on your device only via Apple's SwiftData framework:
- Practice session history (duration, score, accuracy)
- Daily goals and streak progress
- Profile settings (display name, target language, voice preference)
- App preferences and notification settings
We have no access to this data. It is never transmitted to us or to any third party — it stays on your device.
Microphone & Speech Recognition
MyTalkMate requests microphone access to enable voice conversations during practice sessions. Your voice is processed by Apple's SFSpeechRecognizer, which may transmit audio to Apple's servers for transcription.
- We do not record, store, or transmit your raw audio ourselves
- Audio is handled by Apple's system speech service; Apple's retention and processing of that audio is governed by Apple's own privacy policy, not by us
- Only the resulting text — not the audio — is sent onward to generate an AI reply, as described above
- You can revoke microphone access at any time in iOS Settings

Our Relay Server
MyTalkMate uses a relay server we operate (api.drozdev.com) solely to forward your conversation text to Anthropic's API and return the reply. This server:
- Does not store or log conversation content
- Does not attach any personal identifier to the request
- Exists only to keep our API credentials secure and to route requests reliably — it performs no other processing
Subscriptions & Payments
MyTalkMate is currently free to use, with no in-app purchases, subscriptions, or paid content. If this changes in a future update, this policy will be updated accordingly before that update is released.
Data Storage & iCloud
All app data is stored locally on your device using SwiftData. If you have iCloud Backup enabled in iOS Settings, this data may be included in your standard device backup — this is controlled entirely by Apple and iOS, not by us.
To delete all app data, simply uninstall MyTalkMate from your device.
Children's Privacy
MyTalkMate is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has used the app and data should be removed, please contact us.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
